Wojciech (pronounced "Voytek" in English) was born in 1936. Wojciech was the son of Jan Frykowski and Teofila Stefanowska. He had two brothers: Jerzego Kajetana and Macieja. He graduated from the Textile Technician School in Lodz and then the Textile Faculty at the Technical University of Lodz. In November 1958 he married Lodz model Ewa Maria Morelle, who in 1959 gave birth to their son Bartek.
