Set during the historic Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, the film follows Bao, a Viet Minh soldier tasked with escorting Bernard, a young French prisoner, away from the battlefield. Accompanying them is May, a Vietnamese field nurse who tends to Bernard's wounds. As the three journey through the war-torn landscape, their conflicting loyalties, cultural differences, and growing emotional connections give rise to jealousy, misunderstandings, and unexpected compassion.
